RJP Marine are the UK's leading Jet Ski insurance provider, having been in the industry for over 30 years. Although enjoying an enviable reputation for customer care, the legacy systems underpinning the day to day workings of the business meant that the changing way people bought their insurance couldn't easily be serviced.
"Building a website when we first did it 20 or so years ago was a daunting prospect as to be honest we didn't really want to change the way we were delivering our insurance policies to our customers. We had to do it though for regulatory and simple progression reasons. William seemed to know instinctively what we needed and was able to interpret and understand our needs and questions. He has a great knowledge of how various platforms and websites which do similar things work and so was able to offer us stuff that we didn't know existed. Of course, there were issues and niggles which we absolutely expected and probably the best part of the whole process has been how those have been resolved often with lots of additional hours put in and Synergi Tech never saying 'but you said'!"
One of the biggest challenges with the project was migrating data from the existing platform and normalising the data within our new platform to ensure that all reporting could be picked up in the new platform, without any interruption or data loss. The complexities of writing, documenting and reporting on insurance policies is not to be understated. With different policy types, requiring different premiums, documentation, payment methods etc, it was imperative that as a platform we would abstract as much data as possible to allow RJP Marine to self-manage moving forward. As with any regulated business, there are a whole host of legal requirements that systems, documents and policies must abide by.
The Synergi Tech team spent a lot of time studying the existing platform and its data and reviewing the produced documents, reports and integrations. From that point, we worked with RJP Marine to lay the foundation data structures, ensuring that wherever possible, we would be able to allow RJP Marine to manage entities and values. We even ensured that the core formula for calculating insurance policy premiums were configurable within the Admin Dashboard, handling rate changes with ease.
How we brought the solution to life
Once the data foundations and migrations scripts were written, we then set about building three interfaces; the management suite, the website and finally the customer portal. Each area having a particular set of requirements and functions, but all sharing the same underlying platform and data. We implemented a new fully integrated Direct Debit payment option and credit card payments, ensuring customers had easy ways to pay. All emails sent from the system are tracked and reportable, giving RJP Marine valuable insight and confirmations when people have received their insurance documents.

The application and new website for RJP Marine took their ageing legacy systems offline and replaced them with a new platform, which will last for many years to come. Since launch, further improvements and enhancements have been included such as handling Claims made, changes to rates and insurers, proof of insurance lookup via scannable QR code and tighter integration with the accounts receivable functions.
